Jubilee School

Mary returned home Wednesday evening after a four day stay at Satilla regional medical center. She had a problem with her liver which the Doctors could not figure out. She continues to be weak with some discomforts. Please continue to pray for her as she recovers. It has been a wonderful time here as we reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. What a wonderful opportunity to build relationships into the Kingdom of God. We will be traveling this week to South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and North Ga to fellowship with some of our friends. Please pray for us as we travel.

Doctors Karen and Dennis McCarthy visited Gonaives last Monday and Tuesday and brought a team with them. They were able to see many patients at Pastor Genada's church on Monday afternoon the 3rd and Jubilee on Tuesday morning who needed medical attention. It seems that no matter how many hours you work, you always have to turn patients away because the need is so great. We thank God for those in the medical field who God has given medical wisdom and are compelled by God to help those who are less fortunate. Medical clinics are a great time to share the hope which we have in Jesus when we have a relationship with Him.Please pray for those who are making a difference and if you have medical experience, consider using your talents in Gonaives. Brian, Cody and family returned home on Wednesday after staying four weeks in Gonaives. Please pray for them as they re-enter this culture ad continue praying about God's direction and timing for their family. Pastor Genada is now overseeing the feeding program. I talked with him, Rose and DG last night and all are doing well. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Doreen Sigman has responded to God's call to help get the school started this year. We will be identifying 48 students who would not have an opportunity to go to school which are 5 and 6 year old. She will be doing teacher training and lesson planing when we return. We are acquiring books and school supplies this week. Please pray for Gods provision for the materials which we need.

Hello from Waynesville

The past few weeks have run together as so many things have happened and God has been ever present in so many ways. On the Thursday the 23rd of July, we invited Lucner, the voodoo priest and his wife over for diner. We have had an opportunity to build a relationship with him for several weeks. He realizes that God is calling him into a relationship with Himself, but is concerned about how he will feed his family if he follows Christ. Isn't this how it is with each of us when God calls, we must take a big step of faith to trust completely in His provision. Please pray for Lucner and his family.

On the 18 of July Dr. Kim Gould arrived from Arizona to visit with the children in Jubilee again. She along with Brian's wife Cody were able to see many of the children which we had tested several months ago. She brought vitimans with her and we are making efforts with the nusre to get these to the homes which need them the most. In addition to these children, there were many more medical needs met through their willingness to spend many hours each day. Please continue to pray for this work and the medical needs in Gonaives.

On the 24th of July we were able to take Amania to Dorothy's orphanage in PAP. She is one of the children near the waterfront in Gonaives who is not able to walk. She is three years old and unable to stand or walk. When we went to PAP she and her mother went with us to see what kind of help is available. After a couple of days, Dorothy called and said she is walking around on a walker. It was great to visit there as it is always. I was able to hold Aron and some of the other babies. When we took Aron to Dorothy's, he weighed 4.5 pounds with no hope from Doctors to live. Now is a healthy 9 pounds. We are continuing to pray for him. It continues to amaze me how God is bringing so much healing to these babies through Dorothy's obedience of being available.

On the 25th of July Dina Slusher arrived from Roanoke, Virginia with a team of twenty persons representing six different bodies of believers around that area. Activities for their visit included visiting homes, feeding children, VBS for the children in Jubilee, putting new tin on some leaky roofs, and a special trip to prayer mountain. While some of the men were working on a roof in the village, they began to sing songs of worship to God. While doing this, one of the ladies who had been watching them, went home, removed her voodoo articles from her home, burned them and returned to tell the men she wanted to follow Jesus. Please pray for these guys this week as they return to their homes and meditate on the things of God.

I arrived home in Waynesville on Wednesday evening and was glad to see Mary waiting for me at the airport in Jacksonville. The work in Jubilee and Gonaives has not been the same without her. It has been good to see some of our family and friends and look forward to seeing many others and meeting new friends. It was great to worship God with freinds and family at our home church in Waynesville this morning. Mary had some minor surgery on Friday and is at home recuperating now with some pain and discomfort. Please pray with us as she recovers from this. Alex continues to improve and was seen this week mowing grass. Praise the Lord for what He has done.

The past couple of weeks has been filled with joy for many families in Jubilee as the Smith family representing Omaha Rapid Response continue to replace roofs on huts, replace floors in huts and replace some huts. The recipients of this work are not the only ones who are happy. This has created several jobs in Jubilee for men who did not have work before. It is such a pleasure to work with these guys and be a part of their lives. Please continue to pray for the Smith family as they will be in Gonaives for a couple more weeks continuing this work and helping make sure the children are fed each day.

Work in Jubilee Continues...

The work in Jubilee continues to thrive. The relationships we are building with the people in the village of Jubilee are priceless. God continues to place people in our lives who need to know they have hope. Our presence here working along side them with them knowing God has sent us to help, gives them hope. This does not come without persecution. The guys who work with us are being threatened at times. Some of them watch over the property at night to keep the thieves out and are in harms way. Today when they were sharing this with me, I shared with them about you, our friends who were lifting them and us up before the Lord each day. Thank you for caring and praying for our protection and those who are helping us. Today we were able to pour a cement floor in the shelter we have and started placing the tin siding on it. We are continuing to have dirt hauled in. It is a slow process, but God is providing in a way which is not costing anything. If we had to pay for this soil and rock, it would have been 10s of thousands of dollars. Praise the Lord for His provision.

Alex Anderson, Mary's brother in law is continuing to improve. Mary went home last week to be with them during this time. He has been able to walk. His arm movement continues to improve. And his speech has improved. It has progressed to where he was able to come home yesterday. Thank you for your prayers and praise the Lord. Thanks to those of you who have called and encouraged Mary in different ways while she is there. I sure miss her and look forward to seeing her. I will be joining her on the 29th of July and be there with her for a few weeks before returning to Haiti. We look forward to seeing many of you and visiting with you while we are home.

In some of my past news letters, I have shared about Brian Smith and Omaha Rapid Response helping with the work in Gonaives and Jubilee. On Tuesday of this week Brian arrived with his wife Cody, children Kendra, Brad, Emma, and Kara. They will be staying for a month seeking God's will for their family in the future. As they visit, they are continuing to make a difference in Jubilee helping with feeding the children, remodeling houses, and building lasting relationships into the kingdom of God. Cody is also a nurse and has been a great asset to bringing hope to those who need it. They will also fill in the gap part of the time while we are in the states in August by feeding the children and hosting the teams which come. Please pray for Brian, Cody and family as they seek God's will for the Kingdom of God.

Many of you who know Marvin and have asked about him. He is grateful for each of you who ask about him and pray for him. He is doing great. We helped him celebrate his 10th birthday while the team from Brunswick was here. This like Woobens was his first birthday party. Haitians do not celebrate birthdays because there is no money to invite friends for cake and a coke. Please continue to pray for Marvin and healing.

We have had several opportunities to stop at Dorothy's in PAP and see Aaron. You would not believe the changes we see in him. God has truly transformed him. You can feel the seem lines in his head now. He has this great smile when you talk to him. Looking at him, you cannot tell anything was wrong with him and he over seven pounds now. Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for him.

The English class has continued to draw interest. Each Tuesday and Thursday we have 120- 150 people there. This week was a milestone for six more students who earned English Bibles. Thanks to those of you who have donated these and continue to pray to these students.

First Baptist Brunswick Brings Life and Hope

Tony McNorton and his family returned last week with Pastor Tim Nobles and friends from First Baptist Church in Brunswick. There were many highlights during the week which brought smiles and joy to many. One of my favorite was the VBS in Jubilee. They planned for 200 children and 350 attended. They gave the children t-shirts and they really lit the place up in the big open field. The team supplied them with breakfast, a sa-pi-bon, and gave out sandals on Friday.

There were many people who came to know Christ during the week through preaching of the word and sharing their faith in the homes. There was a mother who brought her baby which was 8 days old and was not eating or opening his eyes. After one team member spent some time with God in prayer, the baby began eating and his eyes were opened. Praise the Lord! We met a Voodoo priest in Jubilee and had many opportunities to witness to him. He has not accepted Christ, but knows that God is calling him away from his practice. Please pray that he will be able to have the strength to let go of the old and take hold of Jesus. His name is Lukner.

I can remember a few camping trips in my life where you go camping and set up your tent, after going to bed there is a rain or a heavy fog and water begins dripping on your face right after you go to sleep. It seems that regardless of how much rainex you use, it still finds a way to come in. Knowing how miserable that is, I cannot imagine so many of these homes in Jubilee which have so many holes in them. This week we were able to replace the roof on two of these homes and we will continue to work on more in the coming weeks. The team was able to put rafters up on the building and this week some of the guys in Jubilee and I were able to put the tin on. Praise the Lord! The team has brought joy to these homes with very little time invested. They also did a medical clinic in Jubilee and gave hope to many hurting people. Please pray for the members from First Baptist of Brunswick and others who God is calling to make a differences in Jubilee.

The dirt continues to be dumped on the property. We continue to praise the Lord for this as we need about 3 feet of dirt to rise above the flood zone with the building.

Mary's sister, Cynthia and her husband Alex Anderson need your prayers this week. He had a stroke following a gall bladder surgery last week. Now he is in a therapy program trying to learn how to talk. The stroke effected his speech and his right side. Please be in prayer for them.

Thank you to each of who have continued to support, pray for and encourage us in our efforts here. We could not do what we do without the body of Christ. It is a great thing to see a community transformed and lives changed each day because you, the body of Christ want to make a difference. We praise God for you being a part of the change in our lives and those around us.

Kids Recieving Hot Meals Again

It has been a great week in Jubilee as many of the children showed up each day to help out with the work. They were there to help any way they could. Also several of the men there and it has been a good relationship building. We had to shovel dirt in wheel barrels to build up the area where we are building. We were able to put walls up and give the children a hot meal today. They were all smiles and very happy. Thank you for your prayers and support as we have walked through this. Things are going good with all the people there now. It is another victory for Jesus Christ.

Dorothy says our Aron continues to improve. He now weighs six pounds. He still has not learned to drink from a bottle, he has to be fed with a syringe. Please continue to pray for him.

There continues to be over 100 in the English class and it has been a great discipleship tool. This week ten more people reached a milestone to receive an English bible. They are very happy to receive these and it is great reading material which will help mold their lives to follow Jesus. Thanks for those of you who have donated bibles and funds for bibles.

Sometimes we forget how we have been blessed by God. A few weeks ago after a downpour, I visited Jubilee and went inside of several homes. Many people awoke to a few inches of mud in their homes from leaking roofs. Many of them have plastic over their beds to catch the rain when the roof leaks so it does not leak on them while they sleep and for some they just tolerate it. We had an Idea to help a few of these families with 100$ for a house you could replace a roof, pour a cement floor or put a door on a house. Most of these house are two rooms which are 10'X10' each. When Beaver went Home he shared this need with some people and several people have given towards this cause. So this week we will be doing some home makeovers. A team from First Baptist in Brunswick will be helping with this. Thank you to those who gave to make this possible and for the team who is coming to work along beside the Haitians to accomplish this. Please pray for this team and those in the village of Jubilee.

Pastor Genada has had the bakery back in operation for a few weeks now and the deaf who cook the bread are very happy. They take pride in their work and are always happy to show you how they do their work. Pastor Genada and Rose are currently working on ways to improve sales. The bread sure taste good. Please continue to keep them and their ministry in your prayers.

Wednesday of last week, we had the task of going to Aron's grandmother and tell her the sad news that Aron would most likely not live, but we would continue to pray and have our friends praying for him. Last Saturday, Mary and I were able to spend the day with him. He did not look like the same baby. Dorothy had found a soft spot on his head. On Sunday Dorothy said she was able to detect some seam lines in his skull. Praise the Lord. He had a few bad days this week where he could not keep food down, but he is doing better today. Dorothy registered him at Healing hands yesterday. I am attaching a before and after picture . He does not look like the same baby. Please continue to pray for him as he is badly malnourished.

We have spent a lot of time with Marvin and the Doctors the past two weeks. We were unable to confirm his TB test due to a sore on his are from last test. We have treated him for TB and we will get another chest exam after two weeks and see if the inflammation is cleared up. The Doctor said his CD4 count was low enough that he dos not need treatment for HIV at this time. It is very important to have good nutrition and drink plenty of water. His spirits are high and it seems not to bother him. Please keep him in your prayers. I told him that all of his friends were praying for him, because I was letting you know how he was. He was very happy about this and grateful.

It has been another week of struggles in Jubilee. The area representative there told us we have to hire him and 5 others who he chooses if we are going to work there. I told him we would not work in that way, because we were there to help the community as a whole. Yesterday we went there to begin work on a shelter to feed the children. We communicated to them that God had called us there to work and whatever they did would be between them and God. This area can be volatile at times and so we are praying for our safety and that God will bind the hands of those who try to do us harm. They did come with a different attitude this morning with a willingness to work with us. It would be an easier route to pay bribes and do what you want here, but we do not believe that is what God would have us do. We have been able to to continue getting food to many of the children by giving dry food to many of the house holds. Please continue to pray for us and the leaders in this village.

This afternoon Mary and I were in town and received a telephone call around 2:30. It was Mercidieu (most of you who have been here know him, he is one of the men in Jubilee who has been doing a great job working with us since we started), it was raining and he asked if we could come with our truck and take him to the hospital? When we arrived, they came out with two babies, his wife was 7 months and the babies had just been born in their hut around 2pm. Mary held both of them to the hospital. Around 7pm tonight he called us and one of the babies had died and the other is barely hanging on. Please pray for this family and especially this baby.

It was great to have Beaver Brooks here last week from our hometown of Waynesville. It was a blessing having him here. We spent time praying together and building relations with people through the ministry here. Beaver, wife Kathy and family continue to focus on bringing change to the kingdom of God with their work in Waynesville and in Haiti. Please pray for Much Ministries there in Waynesville. We also welcome others to come and be a part of what God is doing here in Gonaives.

It was good to participate in several VBS's this week. Mary and I had a few opportunities to talk with churches and children doing VBS this week. Thanks to those who have allowed us to participate with you.
